Project Management Case Study

The British Army Whole Fleet Management project was a 4-year project to arrive at a better way of managing the current and future Defence vehicle fleet in a more effective and economic way. It involved the reorganisation of 6,500 armoured vehicles, 53,500 soft skinned vehicles including trailers and 6,000 pieces of plant equipment. It required the roll out of a new Management Information System of about 12,500 terminals and the widespread introduction of new storage regimes.

Scoll Methods have delivered a series of PRINCE2™ Project Management courses to assist with the running of this major change programme in the British Army. Particular emphasis was placed on knowledge and acceptance of members of the Project Board towards their role and responsibilities.

A major portion of the training was on the change process itself; how the Army should decide on the processes and practices that needed to be changed in order to realise Whole Fleet Management and what the ‘roadblocks’ to change were likely to be.

Whole Fleet Management is a major success story for PRINCE2™ and is likely to become the kernel of MoD vehicle management. Scoll Method’s trainers and consultants aim to help organisations implement best practice methods to ensure projects are delivered within time and budget and meet customer quality expectations.
