Course Outline

MSP™ Combined runs the MSP™ Foundation, Practitioner and Advanced Practitioner courses sequentially within the 5 day week. The combined course will provide you with sufficient knowledge and experience in the transformational flow, principles and governance themes of the OGC's Programme Management methodology- Managing Successful Programmes (MSP™ 2007), to act as a Programme Manager for a programme with a coherent projects dossier, a Business Change Manager or to act as a member of a Programme Office.

Through the use of assessed nightly homework, group and individual class exercises the course prepares you for the MSP™ Foundation, Practitioner and Advanced Practitioner exams.
The MSP™ Foundation exam is a 40 minute multiple choice exam, consisting of 50 questions.
The 2½ hour open book, objectively assessed MSP Practitioner exam is taken on the 4th day.
The MSP™ Advanced Practitioner exam is a 2½ hour, open book exam, based on a complex case study that you will study for homework during the training course, that can be taken on the 5th day.

APMG is the examining body for MSP™ and responsible for all aspects of the provision of exams including setting, marking, feedback and appeals. Scoll Methods, as an accredited training organisation, acts as its agent in providing administrative facilities.

Examination Details

The optional MSP™ qualification is in 3 parts. This course prepares you for all three parts of the qualification.

MSP™ Foundation exam consists of 50 questions and lasts 40 minutes. You must get 60% of the marks in order to pass and proceed with the other exams. This exam is taken before lunch on day 3 of the course.

MSP™ Practitioner exam is designed to test your understanding of the basic concepts of MSP™. This is a 2½ hour exam consisting of 9 equally weighted questions (all of which must be answered) on a given, unseen scenario. You must get 50% of the marks in order to pass. This exam is taken on the fourth day of the course. The types of question that you will complete include multiple choice, confirming if statements made about the scenario are correct or not, placing proposed options into the sequence suggested by the MSP™ method and stating whether assertions made about the scenario match with reasons provided to explain the assertion.

MSP™ Advanced Practitioner. To be successful at Advanced Practitioner level you need to pass the Foundation and Practitioner papers and then demonstrate an excellent understanding of the principles and theory of MSP™ in the exam. The examiners expect you to show that you can apply the method to the given scenario by using your practical experience and understanding in your answers. The paper must be taken on a Friday. This 2½ hour, open book exam is based on a set case study which will have been studied during the training course. There are 2 questions worth 75 marks in total and candidates must obtain 50% of the marks in order to pass.

Both of the latter two papers are sent to the APMG for marking and results are returned within approximately 8 weeks of the examination date. Certificates are raised for candidates who successfully pass both parts of the exam.
