What is Management of Portfolios
Management of Portfolios (MoP) is guidance on how to establish a framework of strategic processes and decisions that together enable the most effective balance of organisational change and everyday business as usual.
At a difficult economic time in which organisations need to know if they are spending their finite resources wisely, portfolio management has become significant. Organisations want to improve how they prioritise their investment in change initiatives whilst protecting their operations' ability to continue goods and services to clients. Portfolio management helps - it facilitates corporate survival and growth by better coordinating investment in programmes and projects of change.
Portfolio management leads organisations to:
- Invest in the 'right' change projects and programmes given the organisation's strategic goals and environment.
- Ensure successful delivery and benefits realisation.
MoP...
...Is the UK Government Best Practice standard for effective Portfolio Management
...Defines a portfolio as: "The totality of an organisation's investment (or segment thereof) in the changes required to achieve its strategic objectives"
