Scoll has moved offices

Scoll Methods has moved its Watford location to bigger and better training offices.

Scoll's bigger training rooms are located closer to Watford High Street so that its customers can take advantage of the excellent Watford shopping centre if they want. Still within easy reach of Watford Junction Main Line Station and Watford's Metropolitan Line Station, we have settled into a smart, modern office suite.

Scoll teaches the new PRINCE2™ Practitioner exam format

Many of you will be familiar with the previous format of the three-hour PRINCE2™ Practitioner exam. This format required delegates to provide in essay form the answers to three questions. The new Practitioner exam format requires delegates to answer nine equally weighted questions on a given project scenario. The types of question that you will complete include multiple -choice, confirming if statements made about the scenario are correct or not, placing proposed options into the sequence suggested by the PRINCE2™ method, and stating whether assertions made about the scenario match with reasons provided to explain the assertion. You must still get 50% overall in order to pass, and are still expected to show your ability to apply the PRINCE2™ method to the project scenario.

Scoll has taught the new exam format and has found it helps delegates to focus their revision and evening reading. It also helps delegates to concentrate on the overall shape of the method and more readily apply it during the classroom exercises.

Scoll trains Chinese PRINCE2™ trainers

Scoll has been selected by the PRINCE2™ accreditation and examining body, the Association of Project Management (APMG), to train with Scoll's Hong Kong office a number of local candidates interested in becoming PRINCE2™ trainers across China. The Head of Scoll's Training Division, Geoffrey Rose, will join Rose Chu in Beijing in November 2007 to deliver the first of such courses.

New PRINCE2™ Practitioner Exam

After three months of use, the new exam format has been further revised by the Examining Body to exclude questions that penalise you by subtracting marks for any incorrect answer. From now on, you will only get rewarded for answering a question correctly and not penalised for any incorrect answer that you may offer.

Statistics from APMG (PRINCE2™ Examining Body) indicate that you are more likely to pass the new exam. Results from exams taken between 1 January and 7 March 2008 indicate that almost 90% of exam candidates pass the new exam, in comparison to 72% passing the previous exam format. As a result, APMG has already considered, but, for now, decided against increasing the pass mark from 50% to 60% (it was considering an increase in the rate from June 2008). Instead, APMG intends to continue to monitor the pass rate situation and determine whether to act in future. We will keep you updated!

Contact us on 0800 458 9121 to book a course before the APMG puts up the pass mark.

Proposed M_o_R® Practitioner Exam Change

The APMG, the M_o_R® examining body, has announced its intention to change the format of the M_o_R ® Practitioner exam to the format used for testing MSP™ and PRINCE2™. APMG is presently planning to move over to the new exam from end December 2008 following a 3-month period during which both the present and future exam format will be available. Scoll will be offering the new exam format from the start of this 3-month period which is the end of September 2008.

The types of question that you will complete include multiple-choice, confirming if statements made about a previously unseen company scenario are correct or not, placing proposed options into the sequence suggested by the M_o_R® guidance, and stating whether assertions made about the scenario match with reasons provided to explain the assertion. You must still get 50% overall in order to pass, and are still expected to show your ability to apply the M_o_R® guidance to a given company scenario.

Plans to Update PRINCE2™ Guidance

The revised manual will not change the underlying principles of PRINCE2. The key differences between the contents of the existing and the new manuals are:

Scoll Trainers used in Exam Reviews

Scoll's trainers have been involved in the reviews of PRINCE2 project management, MSP programme management, and M_o_R risk management Practitioner examinations prior to the examining board's use of these exams.

This involvement offers you two advantages:

  1. Scoll's trainers are able to represent Scoll delegates effectively at the point at which decisions are taken on exam questions by the examiners.
  2. Scoll's trainers are well placed to understand the type of exam questions that their delegates will face.

Support Office (P3O) Training coming November 2008!

In November 20008, the Office of Government Commerce (OGC) will publish a new manual to help anyone working in a support office environment. Scoll Methods Ltd will also be offering training from this date to help you use what is in this manual.

What is the manual called?

The manual will cover information about setting up and running a Portfolio, Programme and/or Project Office (what OGC is calling a 'P3O Model' because of the three Ps)

Who is the manual for?

The manual covers a whole spectrum of different support office situations. The manual has as much to say to you if you are working on your own and supporting, part-time, a small initiative as to someone who is setting up a support office covering the entire, organisation-wide portfolio of change initiatives. At one end of the scale, you will learn what you need to sponsor and run a project support office or programme support office dedicated to a single project or programme initiative. At the other end of the scale, you will learn how to sponsor and run support offices concentrating on all of a corporate change portfolio being deployed in a single-country or across a multi-national organisation.

Will there be an examination?

Yes. You will be able to at least acquire a Foundation qualification from November 2008. Plans for implementing a Practitioner qualification are still being agreed by APMG, the examining body.

How can I know more?
